Shillong, Oct 5: The A·chik Society for Ownership of Native Grounds (ASONG) has strongly condemned the brutal killing of Samuel R. Marak, whose body was recovered from Dalu area after he went missing from Akonggre Pickup Stand in Tura.
In a statement, the organisation said the heinous act has sent shockwaves through the community and exposes the growing threat to safety of citizens, particularly daily breadwinners like commercial drivers in Garo Hills.
ASONG urged the Meghalaya Police to launch an immediate, thorough and high-level investigation to uncover the motive and circumstances behind the murder and demanded that all involved be swiftly arrested and brought before the court to face maximum punishment.
It also called on the administration to urgently step up security across transit routes and public spots in Garo Hills to ensure safety of drivers and commuters.
The organisation extended deepest condolences to his wife Posna D. Shira and bereaved family and demanded justice without delay.
