As part of the process to identify the candidate for the 2024 Lok Sabha election from Shillong seat, the State election committee of UDP will meet here tomorrow to discuss the issue.
According to sources, the UDP meeting will assess the winnability factor among others of the three ticket aspirants before taking a final decision on the name of the candidate.
It may be mentioned that former Mawlai MLA Process T. Sawkmie, former Hynniewtrep Youth Council president Robertjune Kharjahrin and Khasi Authors’ Society president Dr. D Rockyer L. Nonglait are in the race for the UDP ticket for the Lok Sabha polls.
Meanwhile, the Regional Democratic Alliance (RDA), consisting of the UDP and HSPDP will also meet tomorrow to discuss a common candidate of the alliance.
The UDP has 12 MLAs while HSPDP has 2 MLAs. Both the parties are also partners of the NPP-led Meghalaya Democratic Alliance government.
