Shillong, Aug 27: The Meghalaya government has formed a Special Investigation Team (SIT) to probe the violence, arson and vandalism during the KSU’s black flag bike rally in Shillong on August 19.
The SIT will also probe assaults on public and police personnel during and after the rally.
As per an order by DGP I. Nongrang, the SIT will be headed by IGP (Law & Order) DNR Marak and includes DIG Eastern Range Sylvester Nongtnger, SP East Khasi Hills Vivek Syiem, SP Cyber Dheeraj Yadav and DSP Crime Bipul Das.
The team will ascertain the cause of violence, investigate all cases linked to the rally, identify masked participants and those who hid bike number plates using CCTV footage, and examine if organisers violated permission conditions.
The DGP has directed a time-bound probe.
