Two villagers from Riwai and Nohwet under Pynursla civil sub-division appeared before the Court of Sub-Divisional Magistrate today over their press statement advising tourists not to visit the living-root bridge on November 19.
In an order passed yesterday, Pynursla Sub-Divisional Magistrate Arpit Upadhyaya directed Khrawborlang Khongmen from Riwai and Mekerbor Khonglam from Nohwet to appear before his court following a police report filed by Pynursla police station.
According to the police report, the Rangbah Shnong of Riwai and the executive committee of the village had decided to deploy volunteers to ensure that tourists were not prevented from visiting the living-root bridge on November 19 during the social work programme called by the Khongmen and Khonglam clans.
According to Upadhyaya, the issues of maintenance and management of the living-root bridge is contentious as the site is being claimed by the Dorbar Shnong Nohwet.
In order to maintain peace and tranquility, the Pynursla Sub-Divisional Magistrate has directed the two persons to appear before his court today and sign a bond under Section 107 CrPC not to commit breach of peace for a period of six months or till completion of the inquiry by the Court of Sub-Divisional Magistrate on the matter. They have also been asked to give surety of Rs 50,000 each in case of violation of the order.
