Buoyed by the success of the first skill training conducted for the visually impaired persons in broomstick making and mator or bamboo broom production, the Society for Urban and Rural Empowerment (SURE), today launched the second training at Dong Lumbhahdakha of Wahiajer village.
The training programme is being organised by SURE, which is the Training Partner of the Meghalaya Skill Development Society (MSSDS) to be conducted by an award-winning master trainer, Kelvin Suting.
The 15-day training is fully residential and sponsored by the office of the West Jaiñtia Hills Social Welfare Officer. Ten visually impaired trainees are participating in the training.
The organisers said two trainees who were part of the first training held in Moosakhia village have already produced broomstick and sell them locally. The two trainees were Kongka Sari of Mukhla and Krishna Pahawa from Mihmyntdu.
Project Director of the District Rural Development Agency in the district, FB Basan who inaugurated the second batch of training lauded the trainees for taking the opportunity provided by the government. He hoped that the training will help them earn their livelihood and more importantly become independent.
Others who spoke on the occasion were Lambor Suchen District Skill Officer, Heipor Laloo Supervisor office of the District Social Welfare Officer, Salonmiki Dhar, Rangbah Dong Lumbhahdakha, Wahiajer, Ilasiewdor Gashnga Coordinator Skill Training SURE and Niwanka Shylla Project Coordinator SURE.
