A complaint has been made to the Director of School Education and Literacy regarding a school in North Garo Hills where a teacher allegedly beat up a Class 6 student, leading to the latter to drop out of school.
Other allegations pertain to financial mismanagement and teacher recruitment at the Khaldang Ad hoc Upper Primary School.
According to the complaint a teacher, whose name Highland Post is not publishing at present, beat up a Class 6 student from Khaldang Rongsrek, which led to the youngster becoming a dropout.
There have also been, it is claimed, unauthorised withdrawal of funds for the mid-day meal scheme and teacher salaries, “a lack of transparency and fairness in the recruitment process” and failure to provide adequate support for students.
Specifically, the complainants alleged that a teacher had been appointed without any advertisement issued for the post, in contravention of the rules, the interview process was conducted in the office of the Sub-Divisional School Education Officer (SDSEO) instead of by the school management committee, which is the body authorised to appoint teachers.
