Mawkyrwat, Sep 30: A couple who went missing three days ago was found dead at Nongjri village in South West Khasi Hills.
The deceased have been identified as Kop Lapang (32) of Umshiaw village, Ri-Bhoi and his wife Aijingsuk Kharbani (23) of Pungkung village, East Khasi Hills, Superintendent of Police Banraplang Jyrwa said.
He said an FIR was lodged at Mawsynram PS on September 28 after the duo went missing from Nongjri Market around 3 pm on September 26.
A search was launched by Nonghyllam police but they could not be traced.
On Tuesday afternoon, villagers informed police about two unidentified bodies lying at Nongjri. Relatives later identified them as the missing couple.
Due to decomposition, post-mortem was conducted on the spot and bodies handed over to family.
Enquiry is on to ascertain the facts and circumstances leading to their death, SP said.
No further details have been shared by police on whether foul play is suspected.
