Shillong, Oct 23: Meghalaya’s Rajya Sabha MP James PK Sangma has welcomed the swift action taken by Delhi Police in the case involving racial slurs against a youth from Tripura, saying timely action against such incidents can help raise awareness and discourage people from taking racism lightly.
Speaking to reporters, Sangma said “Racism is a deeply complex issue, and it is not something that we can find a solution to immediately. It is a very long-drawn-out process.”
However, he stressed that prompt action whenever such incidents come to light could send a strong message that racial slurs should not be treated casually.
He also commended Delhi Police for its quick response, describing it as a positive beginning in addressing the issue.
Delhi Police arrested social media content creator Amir Shokeen after a viral video showed him making racial slurs and harassing a young man from Tripura in the national capital recently.
