The state government has declared May 10 a paid holiday for all public/private commercial and industrial enterprises, including shops and factories, situated within Sohiong constituency for the deferred Assembly election there.
This was stated in an order by the Commissioner and Secretary of the Labour Department.
Meanwhile, the Chief Inspector of Boilers and Factories has directed all factory owners in Meghalaya to declare a weekly holiday in their respective units on the date of poll instead of first day of the week as provided under Section 52 of the Factories Act 1948 to enable the voters of Sohiong constituency to exercise their franchise on that day.
The election will be held on May 10. The state government had already declared that all state government offices under Sohiong Assembly constituency will remain closed on that day to enable voters to exercise their franchise in connection with the deferred legislative election there.
Industrial undertaking or any of the establishments governed by Negotiable Instruments Act 1881, shops and those that work on shift basis, daily wages, casual workers including those working outside the constituency shall be entitled to the benefit of a paid holiday as provided in Section 135B of the Representation of the People Act 1951.
All educational institutions under Sohiong constituency will be closed on May 9-10.
