Shillong, Sep 1: A special POCSO Court in Shillong has convicted a man for sexually assaulting his minor step-daughter and sentenced him to 30 years rigorous imprisonment.
The convict, Teren Mawlieh was sentenced by M.K. Lyngdoh, Special Judge POCSO, East Khasi Hills, on August 28 for the crime committed in 2020.
Police said an FIR was registered at Mawngap Police Station on December 7, 2020, alleging that Mawlieh had committed penetrative sexual assault on his step-daughter. He was arrested and chargsheeted on February 5, 2021.
The court sentenced him to 20 years with Rs 30,000 fine under Section 4 of POCSO Act, 30 years with Rs 40,000 fine under Section 6 of the Act, five years with Rs 10,000 fine under Section 8, and seven years with Rs 20,000 fine under Section 10, with default simple imprisonment clauses.
Having already spent 3 years, 11 months and 28 days in jail, he will have to serve the remaining 26 years and 2 days.
The case was investigated by WPSI L. Kharjana, now at Women PS, East Khasi Hills, SP Vivek Syiem said.
