Because of the rapid rise in Covid-19 cases in the district and in order to prevent the disease’s spread, activities in Mawkyrwat market will be strictly regulated from Monday, it was announced by the Deputy Commissioner today.
Shops will be allowed to open from 9am to 5pm daily. Establishments permitted to operate are essential commodity (rice, dal, flour, potatoes) shops, groceries, dry fish sellers, hardware stores, mobile phone shops, clinics, dental surgeries, pharmacies, Bansara clinic, bakeries, telecommunications and banks.
Those that are allowed to open but must function from the temporary farmers’ market at Mawkyrwat Community Hall are shops selling meat and fish, vegetable shops and betel nut shops.
All other establishments are prohibited from opening. These include barber shops and beauty parlours, tea stalls and restaurants, show and clothes shops, crockery shops, the office of Bethany Society and all vendors operating out of vans.
