The 6th annual conference of NEICMA (North East India Commerce and Management Association) and international seminar on ‘Sustainable Development: Business Policy and Management Practices’ began today, organised by the Department of Commerce of Shillong College and NEICMA today.
The chief guest of the two-day event was Commissioner and Secretary BDR Tiwari and the guest of honour was Tripura University Vice-Chancellor Prof GP Prasain. Other dignitaries present were NEICMA secretary Prof AP Pati, NEICMA president Prof AP Singh and chairman of the Policy Research Centre in Bangladesh, Akbaruddin Ahmad. They were welcomed to the event by Shillong College Principal, E Kharkongor.
The principal emphasised in her speech that deliberations during the seminar on sustainable development will provide a fruitful outcome for policymakers. As the occasion fell on the holiday of Buddha Purnima, Tiwari reminded everyone to incorporate Gautama Buddha’s middle path of life to achieve sustainable development.
The keynote address was delivered by Ahmad, who emphasised the potential of the tourism industry in the North East, particularly Meghalaya, and ways to make it easier for tourists to travel in the state. He also encouraged the students to be job creators and not just job seekers.
