Shillong College’s Department of Microbiology organised a webinar on ‘Career opportunities in Microbiology’ today, with senior scientist at Gangagen Biotechnologies, Srividya DN, the resource person.
In her interaction with the students, she highlighted that microbiology is a technical and applied subject that includes many subdisciplines, like virology, mycology, parasitology and bacteriology.
Further pointing out that scope in this field is immense, Srividya urged students of microbiology to use their knowledge to enter and contribute to other fields, like medicine, pharmacy, dairy, industry, clinical research, water industry, agriculture, chemical technology and nanotechnology.
She stated that this was possible since the study of microbiology contributes greatly to the understanding of life through enhancements and intervention of microorganisms. Lastly, she stated that there is an increase in demand for microbiologists in India and globally.
This webinar was attended by the college’s microbiology students, who posed interesting questions.
