The ‘Peace Conclave’ of the Rotary Club of Orchid City, Shillong focused towards building a peaceful world.
This was part of the Rotary International’s Peace and Conflict Prevention/Resolution month.
ADG, NCC- NE Region Directorate, Major General Ananta Bhuyan who attended the conclave as chief guest said that military is a very stabilising factor for bringing stability and peace and many times through military interventions, peace is restored.
“But after a certain point, involvement of peace leaders, NGOs and the general public are necessary for complete restoration of peace and consequent development,” Major General Bhuyan said.
He also emphasised on the role of NCC and NSS in shaping the youths of the nation towards building a peaceful society.
Eminent speakers Prof. Akhil Ranjan Dutta, Prof. and Head of Political Science Department, Gauhati University, Rikynti Marwein , Editor, Highland post, Samudra Gupta Kashyap, State Information Commissioner Assam, Swami Hitakamananda, Secretary Maharaj of Rama Krishna Mission, Shillong and Supriya Khound ,Project officer, UNDP, Northeastern region spoke on the occasion.
Prof. A R Dutta deliberated on the historical journey of peace-making to the present day.
Marwein said during her address that the states in the northeastern region need to work with youth and train them to become the peace-makers of the society, she talked about an innovative approach of achieving it through ‘peace garden’.
Samudra G Kashyap deliberated on the role of media in peace-keeping in the country, particularly in the region.
Swami Hitakamananda delivered a talk on inner and spiritual peace.
Supriya presented on the role of UN through UNDP and SDGs in peace-keeping in the world.
