Shillong, Aug 10: A group of JJM contractors under the Khasi-Jaintia Government Contractors and Suppliers Association met the Chief Engineer, PHE Department, on Monday over pending bills that have been unpaid for 3 to 4 years despite completed work.
Association Vice President JTS Thongni told reporters that contractors were hopeful after PHE Minister Marcuise N Marak announced that Rs 336 crore and Rs 62 lakh had been sanctioned for the JJM scheme.
However, Thongni alleged the meeting with the Chief Engineer gave no clarity. He said officials gave confusing explanations and told them the sanctioned bills were still “somewhere in the forest”, meaning payments have not been processed.
Contractors have demanded immediate release of dues for work already executed.
