Ri Bhoi College was formally brought under People’s College Scheme (PCS) and the sanction letter was handed by Education Minister, Lahkmen Rymbui to president of the college governing body, D.D Lapang at a function held today.
Under this scheme the college got 31 government sanctioned posts out of which 13 are the existing ones and 18 fresh posts.
At the function, Rymbui lauded Ri Bhoi College for its contribution towards education especially for the poor and marginalized students who cannot pursue further studies outside the district.
Stating that the MDA government is trying to fulfil all the promises made by prioritising the education sector he said, “The state government is not only trying to help colleges in the state but we will as well look into developing infrastructures in LP and UP schools, as without proper classroom and healthy study environment, students will not be able to concentrate on their studies.”
He also informed that 13 Eklavya model residential schools were sanctioned by the central government to improve quality education in the State and one such schools at Pahamsyiem is under construction, which will be completed soon.
Rymbui said to promote the education sector, the government requires huge investment. He sought the support of the governing body, teaching and non-teaching staff of all colleges and schools to work together.
Others present at the function include MLA of Nongpoh, Mayral Born Syiem, MDC, Balajied Rani, Principal of the college, S.S.R Bamon, Secretary of the governing body, W.K Blah, teachers and students.
