Shillong, Oct 25: The Ranikor Division Executive Engineer of the Public Works Department (Roads) has issued a general notice to the public, transporters and truck owners about restrictions on the Maweit-Nongjri stretch of the Nongstoin-Maweit-Nongjri Road due to improvement and upgrade work.
RB Dkhar said that work on the stretch, which goes via Nongkulang village “is currently in full swing.”
The active construction zone (from Chainage 53km to 70km) falls directly under the jurisdiction of the PWD (Roads) Ranikor Division.
The work includes turning the single lane road into a double lane. However, the “constant movement of trucks as well as the parking of trucks on the said roads has significantly hampered the progress of the work,” Dkhar said.
Therefore, trucks have been prohibited from using the stretch from 8am to 7pm and parking of trucks is completely prohibited.
All truck owners, drivers, and transport associations are directed to comply strictly with this order. Non-compliance or violation of this notice will invite legal action under relevant provisions of law.
