With the Model Code of Conduct being in force for the February 27 Assembly election, the District Magistrate of Eastern West Khasi Hills passed an order today under Section 144 of the CrPC to restrict the number of vehicles candidates can use while filing their nominations.
Nominations opened today and will close on February 7.
The DM prohibited the use of more than three vehicles by any contesting candidate during the filing of nomination papers and also prohibited the assembly of more than five persons and more than three vehicles within a radius of 100 metres from the office of the District Magistrate in Mairang during the period of filing of nomination papers.
The order was necessitated in order to prevent overcrowding, which might affect the normal flow of vehicles during the period of filing of nomination papers in and around the office premises of the Returning Officers.
