With the expected upgrade of Mairang civil sub-division into Meghalaya’s 12th district next month, numerous demands for administrative upgrades are being made anew or being reiterated, with the latest coming today from the Ri-Bhoi Dorbar, which requested that the Patharkhmah administrative unit be transformed into a civil sub-division.
The Dorbar held a special meeting today with MLAs and MDCs of Ri-Bhoi. Also in attendance was former Chief Minister and current adviser to the government, DD Lapang.
In the day-long meeting, the attendees discussed the many issues to be taken up with the state government for the people of the district, including the need for a community and rural development block in Mawhati and Umden Nongtluh and civil sub-division status for Bhoirymbong, Umsning and Patharkhmah.
The Dorbar leaders, MLAs and MDCs jointly decided to work together to realise these aims and objectives.
Lapang expressed his pleasure at seeing the Ri-Bhoi Dorbar and the elected representatives putting aside any politics in order to come together and work for the people of Ri-Bhoi. He also assured them of his support for the demands that were made.
