Shops and commercial establishments have been directed to stop displaying goods and wares outside their premises.
The Shillong Municipal Board (SMB) in a notice issued today said this act by shopkeepers is a blatant encroachment into public paths and roads, leading to inconvenience of the public and violation of the terms and conditions set of the Business License issued under the Shillong Municipal Bye-Law 136 under the Meghalaya Municipal Act 1973 (as amended).
Directing immediate removal of goods and wares, the board said those shopkeepers who fail to do so will be removed at their cost to be followed by a legal action, which may also result in the suspension or revocation of business license.
