Heavy loaded motor vehicles and night super buses have been banned from using the Macabe road in Demseiniong locality, the East Khasi Hills District Magistrate has ordered today.
The road is classified as “Urban Bituminous Road” not designed for heavy loaded vehicles.
The District Magistrate said that plying of heavy loaded vehicles has damaged portions of the road, electric poles, footpaths, retaining wall of local residents and poses danger to the emergency services pedestrians due to its narrowness, which is not fit to cater to heavy vehicles.
In addition to the damage to the road, there is also a danger to the local vehicles including emergency vehicles, pedestrians and likelihood that it will cause total disruption in the flow of vehicular traffic at any given point of time, the District Magistrate in the order under Section 163 BNSS said.
