With the temporary bailey bridge continually developing faults, which causes disruption to traffic at Dwar Ksuid in Ri-Bhoi along the Shillong Bypass, the Ri-Bhoi Students Union (RBSU) has asked the authorities to focus their attention on constructing a dedicated, long-lasting bridge at the site.
Recently, the bailey bridge developed faults for a third time, causing inconvenience to traffic. It had been constructed as a temporary measure after the concrete bridge at the site had developed cracks.
However, the RBSU pointed out that the National Highways Authority of India was meant to build a brand-new bridge as part of the construction of the Shillong Bypass, but this never came to pass, as the existing crossing was used instead.
The RBSU’s Amberlight Masharing said that the poor condition of the bailey bridge has posed a threat to public transportation and has disturbed the plying of vehicles, especially those carrying essential commodities.
