The Sub-Divisional Magistrate of Sohra sub-division promulgated an order under Section 163 of the BNSS prohibiting the illegal killing of fish and environmental degradation through use of toxic chemicals, explosive substances or pesticides.
This order follows reports of rampant use of such substances to kill fish in streams and rivers in the sub-division, including the Wahumnup River.
The order also bans the use of fishing nets to catch fish and the dumping of soil, construction waste and other waste material into water bodies.
Any violation shall attract action under relevant laws. This order came into force with immediate effect and will remain in force until further orders.
