Shillong, Nov 3: Tourism Minister Timothy D Shira on Tuesday alleged that opposition to the proposed Shillong ropeway project is politically driven and sponsored.
Questioning the timing of the protests, Shira said there was no major resistance when the project was first initiated and objections gained momentum only after work progressed.
He also questioned the Khasi Hills Autonomous District Council, led by the Voice of the People Party, for sealing the project site.
“If there were concerns, objections should have been raised at the initial stage, not now,” Shira said, adding that public hearing and notification must have been conducted as per procedure.
