A one day continuing medical education (CME) event on ‘Medical Excellence in Robotics in Cardiac Surgery’ was organised by the Indian Medical Association’s (IMA) Meghalaya chapter here on May 21.
The programme was held in collaboration with Fortis Escort Heart Institute of New Delhi and was attended by senior doctors, medical students, IMA and MMSA member doctors from the Shillong region.
The key resource person was Dr Ritwick Raj Bhuyan, Director of Cardiovascular Surgery at Fortis Escort Heart Institute, New Delhi. A renowned cardiac surgeon of the country, he has been successfully treating various heart ailments with excellent outcomes and is a mentor for budding cardiac surgeons. He has performed Tele Robotic Surgery from remote locations to his credit.
After Dr Bhuyan’s thought-provoking talk, Dr C Daniala, President of IMA Meghalaya, highlighted the advantages of bloodless, incisionless cardiac surgeries using advanced robotic technique using Da Vinci and India’s own make Mantra Robotic Surgery System which he hopes will soon also be used in the North East.
