The Federation of Khasi, Jaintia and Garo People (FKJGP) conducted an inspection of the Rambrai market yesterday and found what it described as appalling conditions.
The market was found to be filled with garbage, emitting a foul smell that has raised serious health concerns.
The FKJGP is anxious over the lack of a proper waste disposal system, attributing this negligence to the Hima Rambrai’s Syiem and executive committee. Local FKJGP circle president Jistarlan Lyngkhoi announced that the organisation will submit a formal complaint to the Deputy Commissioner of West Khasi Hills urging immediate intervention to address the market’s cleanliness and hygiene.
Market vendors and local residents have voiced their concerns over the random dumping of waste, highlighting the potential health risks due to polluted air.
