Shillong, Oct 19: The son of former legislator John Anthony Lyngdoh, George C Sunn, who contested the 2025 KHADC polls from Mawphlang, joined the Voice of the People Party (VPP) along with his supporters on Monday.
Sunn, former president of Mawphlang Block Congress Committee, was inducted in presence of VPP president and Nongkrem MLA Ardent Miller Basaiawmoit and other leaders.
Basaiawmoit said Sunn’s joining came after several rounds of discussion and was not done in a hurry.
“Unlike other parties whose doors are open to anybody, VPP does not allow so. We are a party with a difference,” Basaiawmoit said.
He said VPP’s aim is to bring change in the principle of clean governance and to protect rights of indigenous people.
“We told Sunn clearly, if his reason to join is just to win the election, he should not affiliate. We don’t want to cheat anyone,” he added.
Sunn said people had turned away from politics due to unfaithful political leaders, but VPP has brought back hope.
“I did not join the VPP just to contest elections. Who will get the ticket, let us leave to the wisdom of party leaders. If the party thinks I am fit, I am ready. If someone is better, I will work to ensure VPP wins in 2028,” Sunn said.
