The District Commerce & Industries Centre, North Garo Hills district, Resubelpara yesterday held an awareness programme on Prime Minister Employment Generation Programme (PMEGP) at Bolsong Songma in Bajengdoba.
The programme was held in a bid to sensitise the people about PMEGP schemes and other schemes available under DCIC.
Ripamchi N Sangma, EAC & BDO Bajengdoba C&RD block motivated the gathering particularly the educated unemployed youth towards entrepreneurship and urged them to enroll under various vocational training to hone their skill and further create employment for themselves under the assistance of schemes.
Due to dearth of government employment in the present scenario, Sangma said the varied scope under the schemes will empower the unemployed youth to tackle unemployment. She opined that the awareness programme will bring a positive change among the unemployed youth towards entrepreneurship.
On financial assistance under the schemes, she appealed the beneficiaries to be sincere in timely repayment of the sanctioned loan.
Referring to the Covid induced lockdown, she said that lockdown act as a boon for most people as they were able to utilise their creativity in areas such as food processing, bakery, carpentry, tailoring and other handcrafted items enabling them to enhance their earning capacity.
She further added that apart from these, there are other incentive oriented schemes which can be channel into sustainable livelihood opportunity.
I Z Wreang, General Manager, DCIC in his welcome address highlighted the gathering on PMEGP schemes and apprised that NGH District has a target to sponsor 125 beneficiaries under its various schemes. Helping beneficiaries to set up micro, small, medium enterprises and other startup schemes are the main objective of the programme, he added.
Functional Manager, DCIC, Nethaji R Marak while encouraging the participants to take advantage of the PMEGP schemes informed that the venue for the programme was chosen as there were nil beneficiary from the area and therefore people need to be aware of the schemes in order to avail benefits from the schemes.
Other who spoke as resource persons during the programme were AD Shira, IPO, DCIC and representative from Bajengdoba C & RD block.
It was also informed that an awareness programme on Schemes under DCIC will be held in Resubelpara on Friday.
