The Deputy Commissioner of West Jaintia Hills has informed that, as part of the road safety measures and to prevent any fatal road traffic accidents and ensure the safety of all road users, the District Level Road Safety Committee has requested both two-wheeler riders and pillion riders to wear helmets while riding and occupants in vehicles to wear seatbelts for their own safety.
To raise awareness, the committee will conduct an awareness drive at Wahiajer/ Ummulong on March 4, at Amlarem on March 5 and at Iawmusiang, Jowai, on March 6.
The next day, the committee will also conduct a mobile camp and special drive at Jowai Bypass, Khliehtyrshi, to check trucks and tractor trolleys for retro reflective sheeting to avoid rear collision and on March 8 a mobile camp at Mihmyntdu to check use of seat belts, helmets, etc.
