The National Road Safety Week in East Jaiñtia Hills District concluded today at the premises of the District Transport Officer office in Khliehriat.
Officials of the department, commercial vehicle owners and drivers, association leaders, drivers, teachers and students attended the programme aimed to sensitise about causes and consequences of unsafe driving, proactive measures to avoid vehicular accidents and to minimise loss incurred during mishaps.
Motor Vehicles Inspector, H. Dkhar spoke on the importance of road safety and touched on this year’s theme, “Be a Road Safety Hero” urging people to assist road accident victims by informing police at 108.
Sub-Inspector (SI) R. Das spoke at length on road safety measures and called upon the gathering to cooperate with the concerned authorities by adhering to the several traffic rules to avoid accidents.
The National Road Safety Week was also conducted by the office at Lad Rymbai yesterday wherein residents were sensitised on causes and consequences of unsafe driving.
