Meghalaya Assembly Speaker, Metbah Lyngdoh today inaugurated the Pig Multiplier Farm located at Mawsawa village in Eastern West Khasi Hills district.
In his address Lyngdoh said the facility represents one of the interventions of the government which is aim to uplift the socio-economic conditions of people in the rural areas, especially those engaged in piggery farming and allied activities.
He said the farm is a product of active co-operation of concerned stakeholders including the departments of Animal Husbandry &Veterinary and the PWD, rangbah shnong of Mawsawa, land owners and the people.
Lyngdoh lauded the efforts put in by the Animal Husbandry & Veterinary department in the district including the vocational training centre located at Mawnai, which has proved to be immensely beneficial to the citizens of the state in imparting training programmes and modules on piggery, poultry farming and others.
During the programme, piglets and poultry under the Rural Backyard Piggery & Poultry Scheme (NLM) were also distributed to beneficiaries.
Syiem of Hima Nongkhlaw P.M Syiemlieh, Deputy Commissioner Wilfred Nongsiej, Additional Superintendent of Police H. Kharkongor, Director Animal Husbandry & Veterinary, Dr A Laloo, government officials, traditional heads and people of the area were also present on the occasion.
