Shillong, Jul 22: The passing out parade of the 5th Basic Training Course for newly recruited non-combatant personnel was held in Tura today.
The ceremony began with the “Fall In” of contingents, marking the commencement of the parade. Director of Civil Defence and Inspector General, SDRF, Shillong, Merinpole K Sangma, attended the event as the chief guest. He inspected the parade and witnessed the Nishan Toli ceremony, which formed an important part of the passing out parade.
During the event, the recruits solemnly took their oath, administered by the Divisional Commandant, Home Guards, Tura, PT Sangma. This was followed by an impressive march past by the trainees and the presentation of the training report by the District Home Guards Commandant.
Special awards were presented to outstanding trainees who excelled in physical training, drill performance and overall conduct during the course.
Addressing the gathering after the award ceremony, Merinpole Sangma congratulated the recruits for their dedication and hard work and highlighted the growing importance of Civil Defence. He emphasised that the discipline and values instilled during training would guide the recruits throughout their service.
