East Jaiñtia Hills police arrested a suspected drug smuggler during a random check at Lumshnong this morning.
Identified as Alfred R Buhril of Lumjingsuk Block A, Madanrting, in East Khasi Hills district, the person was transporting the contraband in a Tata Sumo bearing registration number ML05 Q 6270, police said.
During checking two soap boxes containing yellowish/orange powder, which tested positive of heroin were recovered from the vehicle. Police said the contraband weighs 24.75 grams.
A mobile phone and the vehicle were seized from his possession.
A criminal case under the NDPS Act was registered against the person, police added.
