Shillong, Jun 20: In order to facilitate the smooth progress of the ongoing construction of the Semmasi-Lakasein road, the East Jaintia Hills District Magistrate has banned the movement of heavy motor vehicles for one month.
In an order under Section 163 BNSS, the district magistrate said no trucks, tippers, trailers, and other heavy goods vehicles, will be permitted on this road.
Light motor vehicles are allowed to use the road, but their movement will be regulated by the Superintendent of Police in coordination with the Executive Engineer, the order said
All transport operators, vehicle owners, and the public have been urged to comply with these restrictions for effective completion of the road works and public safety.
Violators are liable for legal action under Section 223 of the Bharatiya Nyaya Sanhita, 2023 and other relevant provisions of law.
The PWD (Roads) informed that as part of the project, significant work on the cement treated base (CTB) is being undertaken. It is crucial that the CTB works are allowed the necessary curing period to ensure proper setting and successful completion of the project.
