Personnel of the 172 Battalion of the Border Security Force (BSF) Meghalaya yesterday successfully intercepted a vehicle loaded with sugar meant to be smuggled into Bangladesh.
Two Indian nationals were arrested in the incident, which took place near Kuliang border under East Khasi Hills.
The BSF was acting on specific information when it launched the operation whereby it identified and intercepted a vehicle loaded with 24,000 kgs sugar.
Upon questioning, the driver and co-driver failed to produce any valid documents pertaining to the consignment of sugar.
The seized items and apprehended persons were handed over to the customs office, Badarpur for further legal action, a BSF press release informed.
