Two students of North-Eastern Hill University (NEHU) – Euvelin Suchiang and Toniho S Kharsati – clinched the championship title at the Sat Paul Mittal National Inter-University Debate Competition, the varsity said in a press release today.
The event, held on March 1-2 in New Delhi, witnessed determined debaters from universities across the nation.
Suchiang’s exceptional oratory skills also earned her second place as Best Debater.
The two Law Department students were guided by Chandrakanta from the Department of Geography.
The competition was organised by the Indian Association of Parliamentarians on Population and Development (IAPPD), New Delhi, which aims to foster intellectual discourse and promote effective communication skills among the youth.
In light of this remarkable achievement, Prof RL Nongkhlaw, Dean of Students’ Welfare at NEHU, expressed heartfelt congratulations to the winning team, lauding their dedication and exemplary performance. Nongkhlaw emphasised the significance of such accomplishments in nurturing the talents of NEHU’s students and fostering a culture of excellence within the university.
Similarly, NEHU Vice-Chancellor Prof Prabha Shankar Shukla extended warm felicitations to the students and their guide for bringing laurels to the university through their outstanding achievement. Shukla underscored the importance of participation in extracurricular activities like debating in honing students’ critical thinking, articulation and leadership skills, further enriching their overall educational experience, the release stated.
