Indiscriminate mud-filling at different points to facilitate road construction has choked the Myntdu river in West Jaiñtia Hills district.
The project that runs over 6 km to connect the NH-44 from Khliehtyrshi to the NH-40 E at the Treïongriang bridge is being executed by the Dhar Construction Company.
To assess the damages caused on the river due to the ongoing project, the Deputy Commissioner has directed an inspection that included the Assistant Commissioner, officer of the PWD (Roads), Water Resources Division, leaders of the Jaiñtia Fishing Environment Protection Association, Khooid Ya Ka Wah Myntdu and residents of Jowai yesterday.
The inspection was carried out from the Myntdu bridge along the Jowai-Shilong road to the Treiongriang as well as the water reservoir of the PHE at Urkhla.
Residents who were part of the inspection rue that the illegal doings of indiscriminate dumping of mud in the river has adversely affected Myntdu that fills the reservoir dam at Moopiah with mud.
The inspection report will be submitted to the Deputy Commissioner.
