A group of song writers, music enthusiasts and citizens has urged the state government to preserve and promote the indigenous arts, music and playwrights.
The group led by veteran singer-songwriter, Lou Majaw met Arts and Culture Minister, Paul Lyngdoh and expressed apprehension on the preservation of local indigenous songs and plays which have been recorded in the radio stations in the State and outside in cities like Kolkata and Guwahati since the pre-independence period.
The artists urged the government to constitute an autonomous commission with song writers, singers and play writers as members.
They also emphasized that local indigenous artists must who had contributed to the sphere of arts, music and culture must be given recognition and that all original songs written and composed in Khasi, Jaiñtia, Garo, Hindi etc by the local artists to be retrieved, collected and preserved for posterity.
