As part of the celebrations of World Water Day on March 22, educational institutions, NGOs and firms participated in an exhibition held on the theme ‘Act Now Before Our World Runs Dry’ in which Martin Luther Christian University (MLCU) won the first prize, followed by Lady Keane College in second place and Synod Collge in third.
MLCU exhibited a ‘Grey and Black Water Recycling System’ that was recently installed and made operational at its Science Technology and Innovation Hub located at Umsawli, a project funded by Science for Equity Empowerment and Development Division, Department of Science and Technology, Government of India.
MLCU touts this as a cost-effective scientific system for treatment of grey and black water that recycles lab waste and faecal waste and is also the first of its kind to be used in Meghalaya.
Public Health Engineering Minister Renikton Lyngdoh Tongkhar and PHE officials showed keen interest in the model and presentations by a student of MBA (Waste Management), Department of Economics Commerce and Management and students from the Department of Environment and Traditional Ecosystems of the university for its potential for possible replication by other organisations and institutions, an MLCU press release said today.
