Shillong reverberated with rhythms and beats of melodious sounds when the students of the Department of Music of Martin Luther Christian University took to the stage on Friday and performed at a musical evening titled ‘Ha Jylli ki Khriang’ at the U Soso Tham Auditorium Hall.
The literal translation of the title of the concert is ‘The Circle of Rhythm’, named as such as it was a melting pot of different genres.
The main objective of this performance was to provide a platform for the students to showcase their skills and technicalities they have learnt throughout the semester.
“This musical performance is a part of the curriculum which gives the students the confidence to display and showcase their creativity and originality in music. This platform can also help our students to be seen by potential employers, like music studios, event managers, etc”, informed the head of the department, Mebanlamphang Lyngdoh.
Most of the performances were original music written and composed by the students themselves ranging from traditional to rock to love ballads and more.

Meanwhile, as part of commemorating World Bicycle Day, which is celebrated on June 3, the university also recognised and awarded three students with the ‘Sustainable Commuter Award’ for their consistent use of bicycles as their main mode of transportation to and from the MLCU campuses in Nongrah and Umsawli.
Poojari Prakash, from the Department of Environment and Traditional Ecosystems, along with Pynshngain B Lyngkhoi and Adoangra M Marak from the Department of Tourism and Travel Management, were presented with awards during the concert by Commissioner and Secretary in the Arts and Culture Department Frederick R Kharkongor.
