Sutnga-Saipung MLA Santa Mary Shylla is unhappy over the slow pace of reconstruction work along National Highway 6 in East Jaiñtia Hills district.
Shylla, accompanied by Deputy Commissioner Shivansh Awasthi, officials of the district in the presence of NHAI officials, inspected the ongoing works in Narpuh area.
She criticized the slow progress of the road construction. Shylla told reporters that the project director has assured to bring in more machinery so that works could be completed within the end of February or March, 2025.
During the inspection, the MLA also asked the NHAI to put up signages for night visibility to prevent any untoward incident during the entire process of works as well as signboards and warning signage at strategic locations for visibility of the public.
The deputy commissioner informed that the NHAI has invited tenders for repair works of the bridge along the national highway.
NHAI project director Anand Chauhan said repairs along the stretch in Khliehriat, which was severely damaged during the monsoons, will take two months as proper drainage will have to be laid.
Additional Deputy Commissioner J.U.Kharpuri, Donna Lorraine Kharkongor of the District Disaster Management, Executive Magistrate and Junior Engineer of Water Resources Risborn Tongper, Deputy Superintendent of Police S.Pasleiñ, Secretary of Sonapyrdi Daiapherbha Lamare were also present during the inspection.
