The Building Bye Laws Department of the Khasi Hills Autonomous District Council (KHADC) has collected Rs. 3, 20, 26,834 crore in revenue for the issuance of construction permits between 2022-24.
This was informed by Executive Member Teibor Pathaw in a reply to a question raised by Leader of the Opposition Titosstarwell Chyne during the winter session of the district council today.
During 2022-2023, the collection made was Rs. 51 lakh, which saw an increase in 2023 with Rs. 1, 64, 47, 685. The collection made in and in 2024 till November Rs. 1, 39,184.
Pathaw informed the House that the time for issuing building permits depends on the promptness of the applicants to complete and meet the requirements according to the Building Bye Laws.
He said that the department is still short of staff but officers visit the buildings and owners to carry out inspections.
“We have written to the PHE and MeECL departments of the State government that they should not give permission for the supply of water and electricity while the owners have not received permission from the KHADC,” said Pathaw.
