Due to the risk of fires that they may cause and littering, the District Magistrate of East Khasi Hills has banned the plying of overloaded hay-laden trucks and pickups across Shillong.
The order under the BNSS specifies that the prohibition applies to trucks/pickups plying from the Mawtawar-Mawsiatkhnam Road across Shillong.
Vehicles that are overloaded with hay could cause fires if they come into contact with power lines and hay falling from these trucks is littering the roads in the city, “creating a nuisance and undermining the efforts of the annual cleaning drive of the localities”.
The order comes into force with immediate effect in the areas specified until further notice.
