A further 270 people tested positive for Covid-19 today in Meghalaya, taking the total number of people infected with the virus to 7,037.
There were also 115 recoveries and one fatality recorded today. There are now 2,371 active infections in the state.
The deceased was identified as Thakur Singh Rai (87) of Umsning, Patarim in Ri-Bhoi. He had been admitted to Shillong Civil Hospital yesterday and died today morning at around 5am. The cause of death was respiratory failure with acute respiratory distress syndrome with Covid-19 pneumonia and Type 2 diabetes. There have now been 60 recorded fatalities in the state from the coronavirus.
Of the 270 new infections, 195 were reported from East Khasi Hills, 26 from West Garo Hills, 19 from Ri-Bhoi, 10 from West Jaiñtia Hills, seven from South West Garo Hills, six from East Jaiñtia Hills, three from North Garo Hills, two from East Garo Hills and one each from South West Khasi Hills and West Khasi Hills.
Of the 115 recoveries, East Khasi Hills accounted for 71, West Garo Hills 31, North Garo Hills five, Ri-Bhoi four, South West Garo Hills three and East Garo Hills one. There have now been 4,606 recoveries in the state from Covid-19.
Until Tuesday afternoon a total of 1, 63,601 samples have been sent for testing, of which 1, 56,024 were negative. A total of 44,554 people have entered Meghalaya since coronavirus restrictions were put in place.
