Six Border Security Force (BSF) jawans who had recently recovered from Covid-19 donated their blood plasma at a camp organised at NEIGRIHMS.
NEIGRIHMS has received approval from the Indian Council of Medical Research (ICMR) for starting experimental plasma therapy, the BSF said in a press release today, and the institution has made its first plasma bank operational.
Samples of 55 BSF personnel were tested and those six with strong antigens were shortlisted for donation of plasma, which will be used in treating critically ill Covid patients.
“Plasma therapy in Meghalaya is becoming a reality due to the efforts of the BSF, by the BSF for the people of Meghalaya,” NEIGRIHMS Director Dr P Bhattacharjee said.
The BSF said that it “considers it an honour to serve the people of our nation, not only by securing the borders, but also by participating in all other facets for the betterment of society.”
