The Mawkynrew area in East Khasi Hills is developing several tourist destinations that aim to attract people from the state but also from other parts of India and abroad as well.
Among the prominent tourist attractions that the area is already known for are Laitlum, Nongjrong, Syntung and Mawlyngot.
Now there is another tourist attraction at Thangsning where the village has the Lwai Valley, which has been improved in the past few months at a cost of Rs 94 lakh.
This place is only a little distance from Thangsning village but still needs a road to reach it.
Last month, Tourism Minister Paul Lyngdoh and local MLA Banteidor Lyngdoh visited the valley along with officers, village leaders and landowners.
The minister promised to allocate funds for the construction of the 1km road to facilitate traffic to the tourist spot.
Paul Lyngdoh said the cleanliness of the water and the beauty of the surroundings make this a beautiful tourist destination and perfect for connecting with nature.
“What made the visit even more special was to see how well this valley has been preserved and the Tourism Department is committed to preserving the beauty of this place by improving the facilities for tourists,” he said.
