Shillong, Feb 28: The court of Febronious Sikam Sangma, Special Judge (POCSO), South Garo Hills has convicted one Chichim D Shira for sexual assault on a minor.
The court found the man guilty of “kidnapping, kidnapping in order that she may be seduced to illicit intercourse, aggravated penetrative sexual assault on the child repeatedly, penetrative sexual assault and rape.”
In its verdict on February 26, the court sentenced the man to undergo 25 years of rigorous imprisonment and a fine of Rs lakh under Section 6 of the POCSO Act. In default the convict will have to undergo imprisonment of six months.
He was also sentenced to 10 years rigorous imprisonment with fine of Rs 20,000 under Section 366 IPC, with an additional three months of imprisonment in default of payment of the fine.
Superintendent of Police Shailendra Bamaniya said the case was registered at Baghmara Women Police Station in 2019 and investigated by WPSI M.K. Sangma.
