The long awaited Urban Primary Health Centre (UPHC) in Lumparing Pyllun is set to become operational by September, next year.
This will be a major boon as residents have to travel about 12 km to Laban or other parts of the city for medical treatment.
South Shillong MLA Sanbor Shullai visited the construction site along with officials from the Health Department, contractor, and local residents and assured that the new facility would provide treatment for a variety of illnesses and health concerns. He highlighted that the centre would also cater to emergency cases, ensuring timely medical intervention.
Shullai expressed his gratitude to the dorbar shnong for donating 6,000 square feet of land for the project, which is being developed at a cost of Rs 5 crore.
In addition to the new health centre, Shullai also informed that the Laban State Dispensary, originally established during the British era, and the Shastri State Dispensary are undergoing renovation. These upgrades are being carried out at a combined cost of over Rs 50 lakhs.
Shullai also inspected the progress of two important road construction projects in the area. These include the construction of a new road from Jingkieng Kong Nora Hynniewta and Ekindro Diengdoh to the existing PWD road, and the ongoing work to improve the PWD motorable road from the stream to the existing PWD road at Lower Lumparing.
An amount of over Rs 9.72 crore has been sanctioned from the health and family welfare and PWD departments for these projects that are undertaken in Lumparing locality.
