Parties within the Meghalaya Democratic Alliance (MDA) should quit the coalition and form a new administration if unsatisfied with the government’s functioning, Congress legislator from East Shillong, Ampareen Lyngdoh, said today.
Lyngdoh said that the opposition Congress does not intend to take advantage of the disgruntlement among certain members of the alliance and obstruct the functioning of this government.
The first rumblings of discontent came from the Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP), which took up cudgels against alleged corruption in the Garo Hills Autonomous District Council (GHADC) and illegalities in coal mining and its transportation and more recently, the United Democratic Party (UDP) had demanded the removal of Power Minister James K Sangma over the problems in the Meghalaya Energy Corporation Ltd (MeECL).
“The question arises that if these coalition partners supporting the MDA are not satisfied with the alliance and have made it public, then why do they not form another government?” Lyngdoh asked.
She also said that it is unfair to blame the Congress for indulging in power struggles when the parties in the MDA are doing this right now.
Lyngdoh said that the Congress has given the ruling alliance a chance to run the government but, instead, differences among the coalition partners are surfacing from time to time.
