KVK West Khasi Hills celebrated the 7th Poshan Pakhwada (Nutrition Fortnight) from April 8 to 22 in collaboration with the Eastern West Khasi Hills office of ICDS and adopted villages under the project.
The main role of KVK in this programme was to promote sustainable Poshan Vatika (Nutrition Garden) at and around the local Anganwadi centres with a primary focus on children, pregnant women and adolescents in agricultural families.
The programme was organised at various locations, namely KVK West Khasi Hills campus, Tiehnongbah Anganwadi centre, Mawkohngei, Mawkarah and Nongkadait villages.
A number of training lectures and demonstrations were delivered by the KVK scientists to the Anganwadi field functionaries and farmers (men and women) on various topics providing more insight about the importance of nutri-garden, balanced diet, health benefits of super food crops, such as buckwheat and millets, and cultivation methods, including livestock nutrition, so as to reduce nutritional deficiency in the daily diet. A total number of 278 people attended this programme.
